February is Heart Month
Make Blood Pressure Control Your Goal
This American Heart Month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Million Hearts®–a national effort to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in the United States by 2017–are encouraging Americans to know their blood pressure, and if it's high, tomake control their goal.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure[469 KB] is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke. In fact, more than 67 million Americans have high blood pressure.1 People with high blood pressure are 4 times more likely to die from a stroke and 3 times more likely to die from heart disease, compared to those with normal blood pressure.2
High blood pressure often shows no signs or symptoms, which is why having your blood pressure checked regularly is important. It's easy to get your blood pressure checked. You can get screened at your doctor's office and drugstores or even check it yourself at home, using a home blood pressure monitor.

I had posted that Fire is HOT, DARK, and DEADLY. I want to write how Greenwood Place has a modern Facility Safety Features. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 defines the minimum safety standards for new and existing facilities. MORE is better. Over 75 % of senior citizens who die each year in fires do not have working smoke alarms in their homes. Greenwood Place has smoke detectors that are hard wired into the building's electrical system with a battery back up. Because many seniors are hearing impaired we have flashing lights as well as loud alarms. We go over and above to protect our seniors with once a month drills as well as our fire precautions
Brittany and Mrs. Jackson making bunnys.
Greenwood Place Assisted Living and The Villas at Bellevue held our first
Fire Safety for Elder Care Professionals.
We had a great turn out for our Fire Safety for Elder Care Professionals. The class was very informative. Fire is: Fast, Hot, Dark, and Deadly. People between 65 and 74 are 2 times as likely to die in a fire, 75 and 84 are 4 times, and people over 85 are 5 times as likely to die in a fire. We need to know: the risk, what is the behavior of fire, the facility safety features, the facility evacuation plans, burn prevention & treatment, and education for fire safety for seniors. This helps to lower the risk in our senior population.
When choosing a detector, consider:
Ionization (Bedroom areas)
Photoelectric (Kitchen/Family Room) Homes should have both kinds
Many seniors are hearing impaired. Alarm should be LOUD and have a visual alert
We had fun learning and cutting up just a little bit.
Greenwood Place and the Villas will be hosting Fire Safety classes.
Just a Reminder!
We have a Fire Safety for Elder Care Professionals course scheduled at The Villas of Dublin.
The date/time: Friday, Mar. 27, 2015 at 9:00 am
The location of the class: 903 Bellevue Ave, Dublin GA 31096
Number of people expected?
The cost of the training is $20 per student. We ask for a minimum of 6 students in the class. If you have less than 6, you will be responsible for the minimum charge of $120.
Your instructor will be Kelly
Of course, we always expect for a few more or a few less.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
HAPPY SPRING Everyone!
Just a reminder for the Dublin CHCC meeting next week: Thursday, March 26th 10AM-12 Noon at the Laurens County Library.

For many years Wrightsville and Johnson County have commemorated our nation’s founding with a much anticipated, yearly Old Fashioned Fourth of July Festival. The celebration began with the county’s participation in the Bi-Centennial Celebration in 1976 and has continued yearly with the exception of one year. Come join us for our two-three day celebration of our Nation’s founding! A schedule l for the 2015 event has not been planned as yet, but will most likely continue over a span of two or three days with old fashioned events on the courthouse square, a parade, food, games, arts & crafts, 5K/10K Firecracker Road Races, a Worship & Veterans Service, a street dance and more. If you are looking for small town fun with an emphasis on family – visit the City of Wrightsville, Johnson County, Georgia, on July 4th and participate in our community’s annual Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration. This celebration has been in existence and enjoyed by area residents since 1976 with the exception of only one year.

Greenwood Place Assisted Living is part of the emergency services for Johnson County. We were notified by Shawn Wombles that a storm was heading for us. David went to the meeting and was very pleased with the information and the organized fashion things were conducted. Greenwood Place Assisted Living had no damages and other then covering the scheduled for the girls who could not make it to work because of the road condition we had a great day together at Greenwood. When the second storm hit it was more freezing ice then anything cause power lines to go down. We were with out power for about 12 hours. We have generators that can run emergency back up for oxygen, or to hook up the freezer if needed. Everyone was great and with a little imagination we acted like we were camping. The residents stayed bundled up and we drank hot coffee and coco. Our thanks to all our emergency service people who worked so hard to keep us all safe and sound in Johnson County. Georgia Power has us on top priority list and although lots of homes were with out power for days, they had us up and running before the day was over.

National Senior Citizens Day honors our elderly population. On this day, we are encouraged to recognize and show appreciation for the value and contribution of elderly people to home, family and society.
In his Presidential Proclamation (August 19, 1988), President Ronald Reagan said "For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate out gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older."
